We recommend creating transactions via the API. However, if necessary, you can use the Braintree Control Panel to create transactions manually.

Credit and debit card transactions can be created either with a new card or with those already stored in the Vault. For other payment types (e.g. PayPal, Apple Pay), the payment method must already be stored in the Vault before you can create transactions via the Control Panel.

When creating transactions, keep in mind that you can't settle transactions for more than the authorized amount unless your industry and processor support settlement adjustment. Contact us for more information.

On a new credit card

To create a transaction using a new card:

  1. Log into the Control Panel
  2. Click on Transactions in the navigation bar
  3. Under the Transaction Create section, click the New Transaction button
  4. Enter all required and any optional values
    • To keep the customer's information on file for future charges, check the box next to Store in Vault​ under the Customer section
  5. Click the Create Transaction button

On an existing Vault record

To create a transaction using a stored Vault record:

  1. Log into the Control Panel
  2. Click on Transactions in the navigation bar
  3. Under the Transaction Create section, click the New Transaction button
  4. Locate the customer you'd like to charge using the search bar under the Want to create a transaction for an existing customer? section
  5. Click the Charge link located to the right of your customer of choice to create a transaction using their default payment method
    • If you want to charge a different payment method other than the customer's default, click on the desired payment method token ID instead and click the New Transaction button on the top of the Payment Method page
  6. Enter all required and any optional values
    • For authorizations, uncheck the box next to Submit for Settlement under the Transaction Information section
  7. Click the Create button

You can also create a new transaction from an existing Vault record by clicking on Vault in the top navigation, searching for the desired customer, and then following steps 5-7 above.
